Heraklion Sightseeing & Attractions
The prefecture of Heraklion (Iraklio) is situated between the prefectures of Rethymnon (Rethymno) and Lassithi and is renowned for its incomparable archaeological and historical sites.

While staying at the Evita Beach Apartments in Agia Pelagia, we recommend visiting the nearby Sabbatian Monastery and the ruins of the Late-Minoan Graves in the area of Kladissos.

Once you have visited the sites near Agia Pelagia, you can see other places in Crete.

We suggest:
The area of Agia Pelagia is almost totally owned by people who came down from the high village of Achlada. Visit this quaint village situated on top of the mountain over Agia Pelagia, offering an incredible view of the Fodele bay and the sea beyond.
Heading west on the national road from Agia Pelagia, turn off at the sign for Fodele village. Fodele is known as the birth place of painter Domenicos Theotokopoulos, better known as El Greco. The house where he was born is now a museum, featuring copies of his work.

The village streets are narrow, dotted with traditional Cretan homes, and there is the Monastery of Savathiana, which is one of the most beautiful Cretan monasteries.
The Minoan cities and palaces of Phaistos, Knossos, Malia, Tylissos, Amnissos, Levina, Lyttos, Gortyna and Acharnes.
The Archaeological, Historical and Ecclesiastical Museums in Heraklion Town.
The Venetian monuments in Heraklion Town.
The churches and monasteries scattered throughout the prefecture, including the churches of Agios Titos, Agios Markos, Agia Ekaterini and Agios Minas in Heraklion Town, and the monasteries of Vrontisios in Zaros and Agios Georgios in Peza.
The caves in Matala and Kamares.
The Omalos Plateau and the Viannou Amira Canyon near Viannos.
The Lychnostatis Open-Air Folklore Museum in Chersonissos.
Visit the Melidoni cave. Drive past Bali (west, 20 km) and then turn left to Melidoni.
There are many other places to see in Crete, and we would be happy to help you with the information on these by request.

Regularly we hold Barbeques at our hillside location in which all guests of the apartments are invited to attend. A wooden fired barbeque and oven are used in the preparation of the food which enhances the taste of the food cooked.
As well as the Barbeque, other traditional Greek food is served while traditional Greek music is played on the bouzouki and the food is also accompanied by Cretan wine and Raki.
